In May 2017, a joint effort between St. Catherine of Siena & St. Charles Medical Centers produced a state-of-the-art Center for Health & Wellness. The stakeholders agreed that the best way to portray its comfort and convenience, was to have 3Rings produce a virtual tour, where prospective patients could experience these attributes first-hand. A signature opening animation, created by 3Rings Media, for each of the evidence-based clinical decision-support videos produced by 3Rings Media for Guideline Central.

Although not accredited for CE, this educational program features Bill Polonsky, PhD, CDE, a clinical psychologist, who addresses four dangerous beliefs held by many patients with diabetes. Accompanying the program are case studies featuring patient presentations of each of these beliefs, with Amy Hess-Fischel, MS, RD, CDE, BC-ADM, constructively addressing potential solutions. A twist on the traditional case study format is the “progressive” nature of the cases, displaying several clinician visits. Because 3Rings believes in a multi-disciplinary care team approach to the management of diabetes, the target audience for this program is PAs, NPs, RNs, RDs, RPhs, and CCMs. Embracing new practice paradigms, the program also features the utilization of tele-health concepts, including telephone consultations and follow-up visits.

This sample includes a few minutes of the lecture provided by Dr. Scott Drab, PharmD, CDE, BC-ADM along with several of the case studies filmed in-studio.

A unique feature of this CE program was the opportunity for the participants to physically practice their meter technique by utilizing each of the sample meters featured in the program, in a small group format.

This truly interactive format was presented simultaneously via DVD, in numerous locations across the country, connected by teleconference, and locally facilitated by a local thought leader. This arrangement added the element of allowing discussions of region-specific patient challenges, as well as national patient challenges, to the event.

Although the program was accredited for PAs, NPs, RNs, RDs, and RPhs, the SOAP note format was utilized, as some of these professions have limited access to patient data, such as lab values and glucose records

As a program delivered nationally, one of the case studies included a Spanish-speaking patient, with the clinician responding in that language. Naturally, the case study was also available in English, for non-bilingual audiences.

Weight management plays a key role in diabetes management as well as maintaining overall good health, and as such, it is a key driver in patient education sessions. In addition to the didactic portion, this CE program also contains several case studies which feature the use of tools to help patients both lose excessive weight, as well as those to assist with general health and weight maintenance.

This program was also accredited for PAs, NPs, RNs, RDs, and RPhs, and features Renee Ahrens Thomas, Pharm.D, MBA, Associate Professor, Pharmacy Practice, Shenandoah University, as the speaker.

Due to budget constraints, this CE was presented live to numerous groups across the country simultaneously, using DVD technology, in which DVDs were used to host and extend the reach of educational programming. This economical technology allowed for interactive, group CE discussions, which were facilitated by a local thought leader, who paused the DVD, to allow a dialogue regarding the questions posed by the speaker. Once the discussion concluded, the audience then compared and contrasted their responses and recommendations with the Subject Matter Expert.

Additionally, this DVD showcases high-quality video, which allows the participants to learn how to use several health care devices, including heart rate monitors and other weight management tools. By providing the participants with a visual demonstration of these tools, they are better prepared to educate and assist patients with their weight management and health goals.
